After seeing Harvey victims wading through flood waters, Brooke Cobb decided to raise money to get them new shoes.
An 11-year-old from Texas has stepped up to help Hurricane Harvey victims get new shoes
On her GoFundMe page, Plano, Texas, resident Brooke Cobb outlined her goal to donate 250 pairs of shoes to families affected by the hurricane. Cobb calls the campaign “Harvey Soles.”
“Dear North Texas, Houston needs our help!” — 11-year-old Brooke Cobb
"Dear North Texas, Houston needs our help!" 11-year-old Brooke Cobb wrote in a flier on her GoFundMe page. "Let’s join together to assist with the relief efforts for those in need. My goal is to contribute 100 pairs of new shoes. Any size or gender will help! All shoes will be dropped off at Prestonwood Baptist Church and loaded on there trucks to be sent Houston!"
Brooke started with a goal of buying 100 pairs of new shoes, but by Monday they had raised enough money to buy 105 pairs of shoes. They laid them out in the family room in the shape of an “H” for Houston. So she set a new goal of buying 250 pairs!
Pair by pair, Brooke is making a difference to those who need it most.
Off the family went to Walmart on Monday morning to spend the $375 she’d raised so far. They carefully shopped for good deals, buying shoes in all sizes for boys, girls, women and men.
A random store customer spontaneously gave her another $20. Even Walmart stepped in to help out. Steven Boystun, the store manager, handed Brooke a $100 gift card. “Thank you for what you’re doing,” he told her. “It means a lot to those folks down there.”
“That’s at least 10 more pairs of shoes you can donate,” her mom told her. Once their basket was full, it was time to check out. They’d bought 39 pairs of shoes for $435.72
They still had about $60 left. So back into the store the mother and daughter went to buy more shoes.
In total, they bought 48 pairs of shoes Monday. They need just 97 more pairs of shoes to reach her goal of 250.
